SMMA……. Serving the San Marcos Community

San Marcos Manufacturers' Association (SMMA) was formed in 1981 to provide a forum for local industry to communicate common needs, problems and objectives.

SMMA is comprised of nineteen local member companies, nine associate members and two honorary members. Member companies include Avey Plastics, BFGoodrich, Butler Manufacturing, CenturyTel, CFAN, Chatleff Controls, Electrosource, Gulf Business Forms, Hadco, H.E.B. Distribution Center, Marshall Gas Controls, Mensor Corporation, Parkview Metal Products, Pixel Magic, Stellar Mold & Tool, T.B. Woods, TXI Hunter Cement, Thermon Manufacturing and Wide-Lite.

SMMA is active in the community and works closely with Texas State University-San Marcos, San Marcos CISD, Hays ISD, the City of San Marcos, the Chamber of Commerce, Gary Job Corps Center, CTMC, and the Economic Development Council, which are represented in the association by associate memberships.

The SMMA has maintained close ties with all local educational institutions through sponsoring of scholarships, High School Career Day, Science Fair and the Junior Achievement and Partners in Education programs. Six annual scholarships are provided by SMMA. Graduates of Gary Job Corps and San Marcos High School receive SMMA scholarships. SMMA also funds two scholarships for Texas State and one for the College of Business and one for the Department of Technology.

The membership is a very cohesive group that provides unity and support on key issues of interest and concern. One prime example of the community support provided by SMMA is found in United Way contributions. Since 1983, SMMA has been the number one contributing association in United Way of Hays County. Many of the "top ten" contributors are SMMA companies and the number one contributor has historically been a SMMA member company.

The membership companies range in employee size about 10 to over 250 with a total employment of around 2,500. Some of the top taxpayers in Hays County are members of SMMA.

Even though the member companies represent diverse industries, the SMMA is a united "force" in San Marcos and is committed to the betterment of San Marcos and Hays County. The SMMA is an active participant in economic development. SMMA representatives serve on the boards of various community and civic organizations. The association remains committed to working together as a team to strive to improve the working conditions, environment and quality of life for new and existing industries. Membership is available to area manufacturers who share similar interests and needs.
