Business After-Hours Mixer
Thursday, October 27th
The Chamber's October Business After-Hours Mixer will be sponsored by three different businesses, but held in one location, 2406 Hunter Rd. This month's sponsors are Sean Crowder, CPA, Texas State Optical-San Marcos and San Marcos Family Medicine.
The hosts will have food , a candy apple bar from Cool Mint Café, a photo booth, costume contest, raffle prizes, goodie bags for the first 100 that show up! More information here!
109th Annual Fall Awards Gala and San Marcos Has Talent
Thursday, November 3rd
Invitations to the 109th Annual Awards Gala have been mailed. Be looking for yours and join us as an Executive Producer sponsor, Director sponsor or Conductor sponsor. Individual tickets are also on sale now.
Sponsorships and Auction Items
Entertainment for this year's Gala will be provided by the four finalists from San Marcos Has Talent. Gala attendees will have an opportunity to vote for their favorite performance. Those votes will be combined with the online votes and the winner of San Marcos Has Talent and $500 will be announced at the end of the Gala.

San Marcos CISD has been recognized by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) as receiving the Superior Achievement rating in 2011 (for the 2009-2010 school year) for financial accountability. Read more

7th annual "Car and Truck Show" scholarship fundraiser
The San Marcos Optimist Club will be having its' 7th annual "Car and Truck Show" scholarship fundraiser that will include: Customs, Antiques, Classics, Muscle, Hot Rods & Special Interest cars of all types and sizes.
Entertainment includes music, food, vendor booths and more to benefit scholarships for the youth of San Marcos.
This event will be held Saturday, October 29, 2011 at Gary Job Corps Center- 2800 Airport Hwy 21 East

Hire a Veterans Initiative
Currently veterans of the Iraq and Afghan Wars suffer a 9.8% unemployment rate. This is unacceptable to send our young men and women off to war but only for them to find there is no job for them when they return home. However you can help. Under the Work Opportunity Tax Credit businesses who hire an unemployed veteran before Dec 31, 2011 can receive up to $4800 Tax Credit. Read more

Texas State recognized for veterans' resources
Texas State was named a "military friendly school" by GI Jobs magazine, for the third consecutive year, ranking among the top 15 percent of 7,000 institutions of higher education in the nation.
The university is among the 1,000 schools that GI Jobs has termed "military friendly." Universities must be focused on giving veterans the specific services they need to be given this honor, including scholarships and student organizations. Read more
