The Cottage
Cottage San MarcosThe story of "The Cottage" begins in 1910 when the Ferguson family constructed the original three rooms of the house ( the present fireplace living room, front hall and kitchen.) The house and surrounding thirty acres were purchased from the Fergusons in 1919 by Minnie (Sheptrine) and Dozier Owen who, with sons Howard and George moved to the property from near Kyle. Mr. Owen, a farmer/stockman, began immediate additions to the house.

Lee Festervan's family purchased "The Cottage" property in 1966, agreeing that Mr. and Mrs. Owen could remain in their home as long as they wished; both lived out their lives in the home. In 1982 a refurbish plan was designed by San Marcos architect Jeff Kester. The result was modernization and reallocation of floor space. The house features two bedrooms, two living areas, two baths and a kitchen stocked for a "prepare you own" full breakfast.

Lee graduated from SWTSU in 1985 with a degree in interior design and after practicing in Dallas returned to San Marcos to make the little house her home. Following her move to another home, Lee christened the house "The Cottage" and opened it for public accomodation in 1994.

"The Cottage," located at the edge of the Texas Hill Country is, unbelievably, only two miles from downtown San Marcos and covenient to all local and area attractions.
