A Town and Country Trilogy, Part III Heritage Home Tour
HERITAGE BOARD ANNOUNCES 2005 HOME TOUR LINEUP

Eight extraordinary private homes, plus the newly restored sanctuary at the Price Center, will be the featured attractions when the Heritage Association unveils its 30th Anniversary Home Tour on the weekend of April 30-May 1, 2005.

This year marks the beginning of the fourth decade of the association's commitment to spotlighting the most beautiful homes in San Marcos. The tour has traditionally featured only the vintage architecture filling San Marcos' historic districts. However, 2005 is actually the third year of a three-part series entitled "A Town and Country Trilogy", during which historic houses "in Town" are being shown along with contemporary homes built in recent years on old ranchlands surrounding the city. This year's "Country" focus is on Willow Creek Estates.

The Tour selection committee considered a large number of homes, evaluating not only historic value including land and furnishings, but perhaps even most importantly, good interior and landscape design. The Heritage Board is proud to announce that the following homes have been selected for inclusion on the 2005 Heritage Home Tour:

--1235 Belvin, the home of Ed and Susan Bailey. Beautiful landscaping, pool, and sunroom highlight this traditional 1920's beauty, the former home of a longtime San Marcos mayor.
--1222 Belvin, the home of Cecil and Britte Pounds. With its soaring columns and elegant grounds, this huge Greek Revival residence is one of the historic district's most imposing.
--1220 San Antonio, the home of Ronda Reagan. This is a vintage bungalow, set on a huge lot complete with barn and guesthouse, which has been creatively restored and decorated.
--1030 Belvin, the home of Dick and Jonnie Burdick. The sprawling formal gardens and gazebo of this historic mansion will be open for strolling, and for a lemonade refreshment stop, during the tour.
--708 Snyder Hill, the home of Jene and Jean Laman. With owners who are both artists and interior designers, this hidden oasis features remarkable design ideas and landscaped outdoor living areas.
--2500 Summit Ridge, the home of Jerry and Roxanne Pennington. The looks and flavors of Tuscany inspired the design of this magnificent hilltop home.
--2309 Willow Arbor, the home of Reagan and Renee Lehman. From circular drive to fountain pool, sweeping lawns, and magazine-worthy interiors, this stately manor could happily exist as a villa in the south of France.
--740 Willow Ridge Drive, the home of Perry and Marianne Moore. Hill Country vistas are a central theme of this beautiful hillside residence, with its dramatic windows and multiple indoor and outdoor levels.
----The Price Senior Center's "1910 Auditorium" and "1893 Memorial Room", which are the newly renovated sanctuary and chapel of a historically significant church. Magnificent architectural details such as intricate woodwork, soaring carved ceilings, and stained glass windows, hidden for decades, highlight both rooms.

Tour guests will begin the "Town" portion of their tour in Veramendi Plaza on the banks of the San Marcos River, at the historic Charles S. Cock House which is the 1854 home of San Marcos' first mayor. They will then visit the Price Center and the Historic District's four private homes before moving on to the contemporary houses in Willow Creek. At 11 a.m. on each day of the tour, the Cock House and neighboring Merriman Cabin will be open for museum tours and ticket sales. The nine tour sites will then open from 12 noon until 6pm. Tickets are $12 on the day of the tour, $10 if purchased in advance by mail or at the Chamber of Commerce.
Address ticket requests to the Ticket Chairman, Heritage Association of San Marcos, P.O. Box 1806, San Marcos, TX 78667

Tour proceeds will go toward extensive ongoing renovations in Veramendi Plaza. Seriously deteriorated brick walkways and patios are being replaced in phases, and the Cock House itself is in immediate need of roof replacement and kitchen repairs.
