Early Readers Become Leaders Book Drive, July, 2011
This July, the San Marcos Area Chamber of Commerce with our SOAR Partners as well as Half-Price Books, the San Marcos Manufacturer’s Association and other entities are combining forces to issue the community a challenge to collect 14,000 books for children 0 to 6 years of age. And to really kick things off in the right direction, Half-Price Books of San Marcos has generously agreed to donate two pallets of books (potentially 7,000 books)! Now we need YOU to make the rest happen…there will be book barrels all over San Marcos during the month of July...take a moment and purchase/donate an extra book (new or gently used) in English or Spanish that is age appropriate for 0-6 years of age.
SOAR, which stands for “Seeking Opportunities, Achieving Results”, is a collaboration of the San Marcos Educational Partners, including the San Marcos Chamber of Commerce, Texas State University, San Marcos CISD, the San Marcos Education Foundation, the City of San Marcos, the San Marcos Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Austin Community College, Gary Job Corps Center, the San Marcos Academy, and United Way of Hays County.
