College Access Project
The College Access Project (CAP) is a P-16 partnership between Texas State University, the San Marcos Community, and San Marcos CISD. The San Marcos Public Library participates by providing access for potential college students to get information and assistance to enter the university or college of their choice. A Go Center has been created at the library where members of Texas State AmeriCorps G-Force are on hand three days a week to work with prospective students and to help with their educational goals.
This free service provides pre-college information and outreach services to high school students and their parents/guardians, community members, as well as to non-traditional students who have taken time off between high school and college. College-bound individuals are welcomed to the library on Wednesdays from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m., Saturdays from 10:00 to 4:00 p.m., and Sundays from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. to help with educational goals. Get free assistance searching for colleges, filling out college applications and the FAFSA, writing admission and scholarship essays, as well as applying for scholarships and financial aid.
Communities and states across the country are looking for ways to improve student achievement, access to, and success in higher education. To do this, local communities and states are trying to create a “seamless system of education” in which all levels of education — preschool through college — educate as one system instead of several. These efforts most commonly are named K-16, P-16 or P-20 systems. A P-16 system integrates a student’s education beginning in preschool through a four-year college degree.
CAP can also offer financial assistance with ACT/SAT waivers, admission fee waivers, and college visits. The Co Center is a free, walk-in service, no appointment is needed to get help at the public library. More information is available at the CAP office by calling 512-245-8192.
