The Greater
San Marcos Youth Council (GSMYC) is seeking
commitments from the community in the form of school supplies or financial
contributions to purchase school supplies for children who attend our public
schools. Any assistance you can give us would be greatly
appreciated. It is our hope that each child in San
Marcos will begin this school year with the supplies
he/she requires to be successful.

National Night Out Rescheduled

The
25th annual National Night Out Against Crime in San Marcos has been
rescheduled from the first Tuesday in August to Tuesday, October 7, 2008.

Filing Begins for City
Council
|
|
The filing period for
candidates running for the San Marcos City Council in the November 4 general
election began on July 27 and will continue through August 26,
2008.

Rotating Art Show
|
|
The
San Marcos Chamber is hosting a Rotating Art Show with paintings from
various artists from the San Marcos Art League. The paintings are
being displayed in the Chamber's offices and are available to the
public to view Monday - Friday from 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Vapor Graphics
The San Marcos Area Chamber of Commerce welcomed Vapor Graphics to the Chamber's
family by hosting a Ribbon Cutting ceremony this past Thursday. Austin Romano,
Owner and youngest Chamber member, and his partner Carols Garcia were surrounded
by family members and Chamber Ambassadors while they cut the ceremonial ribbon.

 The San Marcos Area Chamber of Commerce welcomed Helping Hand Printing, LLC to
the Chamber family by hosting a Ribbon Cutting ceremony this past Thursday.
Robert Avera, President of Helping Hand Printing, was surrounded by the Vapor
Graphics crew and Chamber Ambassadors while he cut the ceremonial ribbon.
Helping Hand Printing specializes in graphic design, printing, typesetting and
publishing, but they sum up what they do with one statement, "We help you look

Monica's Story
In March 2006, Monica Cherry and her son left Las Vegas, Nevada
to start a new life. Unsure of what her future held she headed toward Central Texas to stay with her sister until she could get
on her feet. After a fall out between the two, Monica was
forced to seek refuge in the local women's shelter. Hays-Caldwell Women's
Center caseworkers encouraged her to apply for the Family Self-Sufficiency
(FSS) program at the San Marcos Housing
Authority (SMHA).

Small Employer Health Plan Purchase Survey
|
|
The Central Texas Regional Health Coverage Project (CTRHCP) is developing low cost Health Coverage Plan(s) for small Texas employers (2 to 50 employees). CTRHCP intends to offer two Health Plans--a Low-Cost Plan and a Mid-Cost Plan. Both plans will offer the same benefits, however, the Low Cost Plan's out-of-pocket expenses will be slightly higher than the Mid-Cost Plan's. CTRHCP hopes to makes these Plans available in Fall 2008. Hearings Scheduled on Parks Master
Plan

The City of San Marcos Parks & Recreation Department
plans a series of public hearings in July, August and September to take public
comment on the Parks, Recreation and Open Space Master
Plan.
"We invite both written and verbal testimony from
San Marcos
residents at these hearings," said William Ford, Assistant Director of Parks
& Recreation. "The parks master plan will serve as an important guide for
development of future facilities, parks, trails and open space corridors, as
well as set priorities for our parks system."

"Welcome Back Bobcats!" Kits
|

Be
the first to receive your free "Welcome Back Bobcats!" kit. The kits are free
for local businesses and contain valuable information about marketing to Texas
State students.
The
chambers are proud to partner with the Texas State Office of Community
Relations to make students feel more welcome and a part of the San Marcos community. Although they may not
be permanent residents, students make significant contributions while they are
here, through spending, volunteerism and as employees.
The packets are sponsored through an annual collaboration
among the San Marcos Area Chamber of Commerce, the San Marcos Hispanic Chamber
of Commerce and the Texas State University Office of Community Relations.

limited number of packets are available at both chamber offices. You may also
get your kit at the Office of Community Relations, River House, or by emailing communityrelations@txstate.edu
