Start getting your patriotic outfits together.  The 29th annual San Marcos Summerfest will be here before you know it.
 
Back at San Marcos Plaza Park, the city's Independence Day celebration will open at 5 p.m. July 4 with the annual Children's Parade and Costume Contest, followed immediately by the patriotic program.

Join City of San Marcos Mayor Susan Narvaiz for the 24th Annual Business Expo Official Kick Off - at the Sneak Peek Party, Wednesday August 26 from 5:30- 8:30 pm.  Enjoy food and beverage samples from area restaurants and caterers and delicious hors de oeuvres from Embassy Suites as you visit with 100 exhibitors and network with over 1,500 attendees.  Admission tickets provided to all chamber members.  Additional complimentary admission tickets provided to sponsors and exhibitors.

MATTHEW LEWIS JOINS CITY DEVELOPMENT SERVICES
Matthew Lewis, Assistant Director of Development Services for the City of San Marcos Coming Home
Matthew B. Lewis, formerly the Community Development Director for the City of Hutto, Texas, joined the City of San Marcos on June 8 as Assistant Director of Development Services.
 
He will be responsible for overseeing the development regulations that govern the growth of San Marcos.
 
Lewis will work with developers and applicants to ensure that developments meet the needs of the community. Read more

PARTNERS TO SIGN VILLAGE MAIN AGREEMENT
Partners in a one-stop social service center for San Marcos agencies will sign an agreement of their intent to establish the Village Main building on 29 acres located at Village of San Marcos on Reimer Avenue off Hunter Road.

"The purpose for the Village of San Marcos is to bring non-profits together on one piece of property to benefit clients," said Penny Dunn, Village President and Commander with the San Marcos Police Department. "Clients can avoid the problems of finding transportation and childcare through the current maze of services and concentrate on the resources they need to improve their lives." Read more
Book EARLY READERS BECOME LEADERS BOOK DRIVE
Book Drive in July
United Way of Hays County, in partnership with SOAR, will be conducting a book drive during the month of July. The goal is to collect 1000 books for children ages 0-6 in both English and Spanish. The books will then be distributed in book bags donated by Butler Manufacturing and Gary Job Corp to students in the ECI and Head Start programs.

Collection bins will be placed around town for you to drop off new or gently used books beginning July 1. Read more
