Changes in Employers Obligations in Challenging Economic Times
There have been significant changes in employers' obligations during the past 9 - 12 months. We have seen more changes in that time than during the past 5 years.
Harsh economic times also require changes in employment practices and
cost cutting strategies relating to a business's workforce and most
valued asset. On June 3rd, the San Marcos Area Chamber of Commerce and special Guest Speaker, Jeffrey A. Hagelman,
will discuss these significant changes and address how successful
employers can proactively adjust to maintain an effective and efficient
workforce in the light of concerning trends in employment law and the
economy. Click here for more information

Looking on the Bright Side
It's much too easy to get distracted these days with the negative news
that surrounds all of us. Business failures across the country, stock portfolios
that make us wish we had our cash under the mattress... it's no wonder we get
caught up in the hype and forget just how good we have it.
Reports just
in this week are that the Austin area jobless rates are down! And those jobless
rates are significantly lower than rates nationwide. The greater Austin area
recently ranked #2 in the best places to live. But we already knew that! And
those of us in San Marcos know that we still have a little piece of heaven on
earth, right here in San Marcos. Read more

Since 1921, thousands of Chamber and Association execs
have attended the US Chamber's Institute for Organization Management. Today,
Institute continues to remain the most recognized and valued education program

sits on the Board of Regents for West Institute in Los
Angeles.
West Institute holds a
silent auction each summer that provides scholarships for many non profit execs
and staff from across the country.
If would like to provide a donation to the auction -
it would surely be appreciated. Want to promote your business or product
nationwide among Chamber and association execs? Want to know more? Please
